My skin care routine is very basic and essentially consists of three important steps. It consists of cleansing, toning and moisturising.
- Morning Routine!
- As soon as I wake up, I make sure I wash my face thoroughly to get rid of any dirt or oil. The face wash I use is the 'Delicate Facial Cleanser from Forest Essentials in Kashmiri Saffron & Neem' The product has been vital in helping my skin heel and I use it atlas twice a day. As it's name suggests, it is very gentle and helps prevent further formation of acne. It does not help in getting rid of acne scars, but I'm certainly not complaining! Another product I use for cleansing is the 'Kama Ubtan' soap free cleanser. Just add a few drops to it and clean your face with it, it works great too!
- The next step is toning. As you guys know I'm a fan of natural products so Rose water was indeed my first choice. At first I was apprehensive about whether it would suit my skin type. After using it for almost a month I can definitely say it has done only good to me. Apart from toning it also helps in cleansing and refreshing your face. My go-to is the 'Dabur Gulabari Rose water' available easily in drug stores. Sometimes I also switch to 'Kara Toning Skin wipes in Rose' if I'm on the go and need some freshness. I usually leave the product on my face for a minute before jumping on the next step.
- Next step is probably one of the most underrated step. Living in the Tropics, I considered a moisturiser of any use only during a winter holiday, but little did I know that my oily skin was craving it! Your skin tends to get oily when it isn't sufficiently hydrated. So I've started moisturising my skin at least thrice a day to keep it nourished. My dermatologist recommended the 'Cetaphil' lotion that is really popular. It is a very light weight product and is perfect for pre makeup. Nivea works for me too, but I don't prefer applying it during summers due to its thick consistency.
- Night Routine!
My night routine is typically the same. Instead of the moisturiser I use my 'Kumkumadi Teenage night cream' that I have written about before.
- Face packs and exfoliators
Home remedies are my go to when it comes to face packs and exfoliators. 'Turmeric + yogurt + rose water' makes the best one indeed! Leave it on till it sort of hardens and gently massage it on your face. It works as a great exfoliator and gives an instant glow. Turmeric has great healing properties and works well for me. I make sure I'm doing this once or twice a week.
- Makeup
Makeup doesn't actually cause acne but thats only if you're taking a hell lot of time to remove it. I use a mac makeup remover to get rid of the lip and eye products followed by an intense face wash to melt the makeup and get rid of it. Removing makeup is crucial especially if you are prone to acne so make sure you're using products that are alcohol and oil free and suitable for blemished skin which isn't too harsh.
- Diet (Work in process)
Excess dairy and oily food takes a toll on your skin very quickly. What you eat basically shows on the outside too. I've been trying to avoid eating outside a lot and have been trying to switch fried snacks with dry fruits or a fruit bowl. Milk is one drink I can't do without so I slowly trying cut down my consumption of milk and milk products too.
- Water, lots of it!
Drinking water is so important for your skin! Drinking at least 6-7 glasses of water can bring out a drastic change. Ditch the coffee and aerated drinks for some plain water because the simpler the better!
